Church Ranch Event Center Fire Line - Westminster Colorado
L & M directional drill crews utilized horizontal directional boring to install two 4” fire lines for 200 ft. The plumbing contractor on the job needed two 4” lines placed underground between the water main in Old Wadsworth and the event center building. The owner requested horizontal directional boring method for this pipe installation to minimize surface disruption at the wedding event venue. Despite the cobble conditions and the need to pre-ream the bore hole to get the required diameter, this bore was completed in two days. The plumbing contractor provided the bore pits at each end and the boring eliminated any open trenching for the 200 ft between the pits. The bore exit pit was up against a busy roadway with no set up space to lay out 200 ft of pipe. Therefore Certalok was selected for this job to meet the PVC C900 requirement. Certalok was the preferred choice for the directional boring installation because the pipe can be put together one joint at a time during the pull back. Certalok uses restraining joints with bells so it can be pulled in without the joints pulling apart. Traditional PVC is not favored for directional boring because the joints would pull apart during pull back operations. Fusible PVC is another option, but it requires more set up space in order to fuse the entire pipe string before boring. L & M has the experience to make the best pipe selection possible for each directional boring project to ensure project
success.
